The CZBG Sustainable Urban Landscapes Symposium (March 13th) might be one of the best we’ve had so far. It will be loaded with inspiration and very practical information you can directly use on your projects and gardens.

Our keynote speaker, Rebecca McMackin, is an award-winning, ecologically obsessed horticulturist and designer who was Director of Horticulture at the renowned Brooklyn Bridge Park. She currently is working with the historic Woodlawn Park Cemetery in New York. Her 2023 TED talk was a viral sensation.

My talk will contextualize some modern design concepts and convert them into a practical guide to making beautiful and ecologically impactful landscapes and gardens within budget constraints.

Steve Foltz will follow with a talk on all the very best sustainable plants. This will be across the board, everything from the best pollinator plants to biomass to human health and well-being.

The afternoon sessions will focus on growing trees in cities and suburbs. It will include expertise of Brian Heinz of Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, Steve Foltz of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Crystal Courtney, Division Manager of Natural Resource from the Cincinnati Urban Park Board, Joe Boggs of OSU Hamilton County Extension, and Rebecca McMackin. I dare you to find a more concentrated afternoon of pragmatic expertise on selecting, planting, and maintaining suburban/urban trees anywhere!
